Christopher Crandall Brand, born in Hopkins, Rhode Island in 1813, died in Norwich, Connecticut in 1873. He operated the Brand Firearms Company in Norwich, Connecticut from 1852 until 1875.

Leading manufacturer of whaling guns. Brand also made breech-loading single-shot rifles and carbines.

A limited number of Brand carbines were procured by Ordnance for state militia use during the Civil War. But his focus remained even during the Civil War years on sportina arms with interchangeable rifle and shotun barels.

.50 caliber cartridge, single shot, 22" round rifled barrel, made between 1862-1865.

Carbine

Brand's long arms or most of his long arms were manufactured by Edward Robinson, New York. They made also a series of test rifles, carbines, muskets and rifle-muskets. Some of them took part on the 1870 trials of a preech-loading military arm.
